TRUE OR FALSE? - BLACK GOES WITH EVERYTHING
FALSE!
Black goes with everything...except all the colors it doesn't go with- like any color that is a "seasonal opposite." In fact, the only women who should ever wear black are Winter women. The rest of the seasons should choose neutrals like brown (Spring & Autumn) or gray (Summer). If you don't have Winter coloring, you shouldn't have black in your closet.
TRUE OR FALSE? - ONLY SKINNY GIRLS CAN WEAR SKINNY JEANS
FALSE!
Just because they are called "skinny" jeans doesn't mean you have to be skinny to wear them. Curvy women can totally pull off skinny jeans too. The key is to make sure they fit well- that they are snug, but not too tight. This rule applies to any woman wearing skinny jeans. If you want to wear skinny jeans, but are insecure about your hips, a good option is to go with a long tunic over them (if it works for your body type). Also, a mid to high rise waist is ideal for elongating and hiding your mid-section.
TRUE OR FALSE? - YOU CAN WEAR WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY
TRUE!
When and why the whole "no white after Labor Day" rule started isn't entirely clear. One thing is for sure, though. It was a long, long time ago, and it no longer applies. Go ahead and wear white anytime you want! Spring and summer are the best seasons for white pieces, since white tends to keep you cooler.
TRUE OR FALSE? - YOU SHOULD NEVER MIX BROWN AND BLACK
TRUE! (well, sort of...)
It is true that you shouldn't mix warm and cool tones in the same outfit. However, if you find a piece that has both black and brown in it, you can "override" this rule by sticking to the color best suited for you for the rest of your outfit. For example, if you have a shirt or dress with black and brown stripes, and you have warm coloring, make sure the rest of your look uses only warm colored pieces.
TRUE OR FALSE? - WEARING BLACK MAKES YOU LOOK SLIMMER
TRUE AND FALSE!
There are several theories about why black might be slimming, but the truth is, it isn't slimming for all women. If you're wearing clothes that don't flatter your body type, or don't fit correctly, no color is going to make you look slim. Also, women who are not Winters will actually appear older by wearing black, because it brings attention to the fine lines and wrinkles on the face.
